Hungarian regions have recognised the necessity and importance of regional planning in the social sector. However documents – have been completed up to now – are quite heterogenous by their content and elaboration. This is the consequence of different partnership levels, the heterogenous educational background of professionals and various interpretation of regionalisation. In the future the strengthening of the regional level spatial planning could depend on the following key elements: the enhancement of planning capacities, the promotion of innovations and partnerships, the growing role of the non-profit sector.
